A gentle introduction to meditation with a mala.
A moment to slow down, breathe and return to yourself.
Why use a Mala?
Our team has had many years of mala meditation practice. We have found that using the mala might make it easier to stay with the repetition of the Mantra. It may create a more natural rhythm and keeps the mind focused on the beads and the mantra.
Whereas the final goal of meditation is to completely shut down the five senses, sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, with the mala we still use the sense of touch. This might make it a littler bit easier for the beginning meditator. There is still something ‘left to do’.
How to use a mala?
– Hold them in your right hand.
– Hold the first bead with thumb and middle finger (leave the index finger out) and repeat silently “So Hum”.
– Go to the next bead and again repeat the mantra.
– Continue in this way until you reach the Guru bead.
– You have completed one round. Turn the beads around. Do not meditate on the Guru bead. Meditate in the opposite direction.
– If you notice your mind has drifted away to sensations, thoughts, feelings, sounds etc., gently bring your attention back to the mantra and your beads.
– Do not force or concentrate, just keep repeating the mantra So Hum easily and effortlessly, regardless of how many times you might drift off.
– Meditate as many rounds as you like.
– When finishing the meditation, take a few minutes to relax before starting other (daily) activities.

You can use this mantra
SO HUM
